Lilith asks why the Oankali can eat human food and Kahguyaht tells her that they have adjusted to the foods of Earth. Lilith also notices that even though Jdhaya claims that Oankali are not hierarchical, he and the rest of his family seem to defer to Kahguyaht. Lilith is put off by Kahguyaht's demeanor and thinks of it as "one of the creatures scheduled to bring about the destruction of what was left of humanity" (46). Kahguyaht explains to Lilith that her body has drifted away from Earth's 24-hour day. She asks Jdhaya how long he was in her room. Jdhaya's family eats with Lilith and she realizes that she had not seen Jdhaya eat anything until that moment. (Remember that Oankali relationships traditionally occur between three individuals: one male, one female, and one ooloi). Lilith meets the other members of Jdhaya's family: Tediin, Jdhaya's wife Kahguyaht, Jdhaya and Tediin's ooloi mate and Nikanj, the family's ooloi child. Jdhaya's family gives Lilith a feast of human food, which fills Lilith with "pleasure so sharp and sweet" (45). ![]() ![]() The second section of Dawn, "Family," opens once Lilith has arrived at Jdhaya's home. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() It was a return to the roots of Bob Kane and Bill Finger's creation, a costumed vigilante who fought crime by instilling fear into those who would do wrong, who would prey on the innocent and unfortunate. ![]() Miller’s stern, noirish reimagining cemented Wayne, Batman, Gotham and the Joker into the bedrock of comic book greatness and the forefront of popular culture, setting the stage for the character’s cinematic legacy. His work on THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS in 1986, its sequel, THE DARK KNIGHT STRIKES AGAIN and his famed YEAR ONE story that ran in Batman #404-407, has stood not just the test of time, but also public perception and taste. His reenvisioning and reinvigoration of Bruce Wayne through a series of stories and books forever transformed the nature of the caped crusader from a costumed crimefighter into a creature who lurks in the dark, bringing dire justice to a city riven by insanity, crime and uncertainty. Frank Miller, soft-spoken yet brutally intense in the pages of the comic books he writes, draws and directs, has sparked a legacy of profound grittiness and raw emotion in his groundbreaking stewardship of DC Comics' iconic Batman. ![]() ![]() ![]() All they have is each other, and a startling desire that could be their downfall. Its origin also remains the subject of fables and scholarly debate. Mystics, students and teachers have discussed the meaning and application of Lao Tzu’s text since its first appearance. ![]() This version is simply titled, The Way, as the broader concept of the Way or Tao incorporates remaining in harmony with the natural order of life.
